Thomas O Shaughnessy, Assistive Technology Officer at the University of Limerick. Current PhD candidate in MIC researching in the area of assistive technology in Initial Teacher Education. Background in Computer Science and Software Engineering. 12+ years assessing, training and supporting students with disabilities on a range of assistive and educational technologies from literacy software and accessibility features to customisable hardware. Expertise in the selection and provision of inclusive technologies in official university examinations.
Guest lecture on different courses, including the MA in Technical Communication and E-Learning, Graduate Diploma in Mentoring & Leadership in Education (MIC), MSc in Speech & Langauge Therapy) and Inclusive Education (EN4026). Manage the purpose-built Educational Assistive Technology Center, an assistive technology training center which is used to train students as well as a range of internal and external clients (teachers, companies, educational professionals. SLP’s, OT’s etc.) on assistive technologies. Sit on the UL Web Group and current chair of the Accessibility Web subgroup (rotating chair).

• All things UDL
• Developing new technology initiative to support deaf/hard of hearing students
• Assistive Technology in pre-service teacher education
